To encourage CSPP student research in Filipino American Studies, CSPP alumna Dr. Jei Africa created The Jei Africa Dissertation Award for Filipino American Studies in the 2012-2013 academic year. 

Dr. Africa, an alumna of our San Francisco campus (Clinical PsyD, ’02 and Postdoctoral MS/Clinical Psychopharmacology, ’07), was born and raised in the Philippines and is now a clinical psychologist who is certified as addiction and domestic violence counselor. In 2012, she was the recipient of the 2012 KQED/Union Bank "Local Heroes” award.
