The California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University community is proud to honor the memory of Dr. Herbert Baker, dedicated Professor, Program Director, and student mentor who always recognized and cultivated every students' inherent potential to succeed. Dr. Baker joined the Alliant community as a student at US International University (USIU), earning his PhD in Sociology and Anthropology in 1977, and later serving as Professor and Director of our Industrial-Organizational programs at the San Diego campus from 1989-2010. He passed away suddenly in 2010 leaving a gap that continues to be felt.

He set high expectations and ethical standards, which guided his passion for learning and growth, not only for himself but also for his students. As Dr. Baker said, "Argue for your limitations and they are yours." He believed that all people have the inherent potential to succeed. His work ethic and sense of responsibility were unsurpassed, tirelessly striving to improve the status quo. This was the kind of dedication he committed to each of the three separate careers he held throughout his lifetime. It is this kind of ethic we would like to encourage in future generations of students, supported by the Herbert Baker Organizational Psychology Scholarship.

Dr. Baker was a dedicated administrator, yet his real passion was working with students. He taught classes in I/O psychology, consulting, leadership, management, organizational development, human resources and social psychology. Each year he worked hard to organize and provide students with amazing opportunities as part of study tours around the globe, and escorted groups of students to China, England, Spain, Vietnam and many other countries. He also served as advisor to the the International Organizational Studies Association (IOSA).

From 1980 to 1999, Dr. Baker worked as a personnel research psychologist for the Navy's Personnel Research and Development Center in San Diego. He was active in numerous areas of research policy making, education and training. Dr. Baker retired from the U.S. Marine Corps with more than 20 years of active service, with personal decorations that included the Silver Star.

The Herbert Baker Organizational Psychology Scholarship is awarded annually to an exemplary student in the Organizational Psychology graduate programs across Alliant campuses. 100% of the contributions to the scholarship fund directly support the scholarship recipient, and the scholarship provides direct financial assistance to offset tuition costs for the student.

We are proud of Dr. Baker's service to our country, our university and our students. Please consider making a contribution to his scholarship, thus ensuring that Dr. Baker will continue, in name and spirit, to support and assist CSPP students for years to come.
