"Receiving the Lucy Garcia Scholarship assisted me financially which in turn helped me concentrate more on my academic success, particularly in finishing my research practicum on time. Coincidently, my research practicum topic focused on the Mexican-American population, specifically gang members. The Lucy Garcia Scholarship greatly influenced me to complete this project and the ambition to achieve such task." |

"I was very fortunate to be a candidate of the Enrique and Lucy Garcia Scholarship throughout my graduate school years at CSPP. Coming from an economically disadvantaged Mexican-American background, financial support was something that my parents could not provide. This scholarship helped me pay for books and other student necessities. In addition to financial support from this family, I felt the scholarship represented emotional support as well. For me, the scholarship came to symbolize my continued dedication to care for the mental health of human beings from marginalized, oppressed, and disadvantaged backgrounds. I am extremely grateful for all that this scholarship represented to me as a doctoral student and as a Latina clinical psychologist." |

"The Lucy Garcia Scholarship has been a great help to me. I understood that the graduate school experience would be difficult academically, but no one ever talks about the financial hardship it can be for some students. I believe that one of the many barriers for many Latinos in accessing graduate schools is the cost. Once accepted to CSPP at AIU, I began to think about how I would pay for school and recognized that my only option was loans. My first and second years at CSPP I did not apply for the Lucy Garcia Scholarship because I thought that other people had a greater need than me. Then I began my third year and stopped working that year because I wanted to finish my doctoral project so I applied for the scholarship. Which I was very happy to receive, thank you. Receiving the scholarship facilitated my own understanding of the huge part economics plays in Latino educational achievement. It also allowed me to focus on other thing like my continued involvement in the Latino Student Psychological Association." |

"The Enrique and Lucy Garcia Foundation scholarship has been a tremendous help during my studies. Upon starting graduate school, I quickly noticed that my finances were going to be tight. This scholarship opportunity has given me added freedom to purchase all of my school materials and supplies. In addition, the Enrique and Lucy Garcia Foundation Scholarship has reduced some of my financial worries while I continue my graduate studies." |

"I have been very fortunate to have been awarded the Garcia Family Foundation Scholarship on four different occasions. As a first generation college student and the daughter of working class Mexican immigrants, the support that this scholarship has provided to me has been extremely helpful and inspiring. With the help of this scholarship, I have been able to meet different educational expenses as well as attend conferences and other professional development activities. I feel deeply appreciative and indebted to the Garcia Family for the financial support that they have provided to me. As a Latina who is pursuing a career as a psychologist and who is dedicated to meeting the mental health needs of the Latino community and other underserved and disadvantaged communities, this scholarship has served to further motivate me in my pursuit of these goals." |
